Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Am I obliged to help out at various events?

It is up to you to decide at how many events, on how many days and how regularly you would like to work as a volunteer. So, you are free to decide whether you help out each time at a particular event or whether you offer your support to other events and would like to gain new experiences.

How do I find out about new events?

All events which are looking for volunteers are listed on the Swiss Volunteers website under Events. We also inform you once a month about the latest events in our volunteers’ newsletter, to which you can subscribe or unsubscribe on the platform. In addition, it is worth taking a look on our social media pages, where we also provide information about new events and current requirements.

Can I carry out my volunteering assignment with a particular person / group?

If you wish to carry out your volunteering assignment with a non-profit organisation, you can register for the event directly with the registration link allocated to the organisation. If you wish to do your volunteering assigment with a specific person, both of you should state this under comments when you register for the event.

Are board and lodging included in each of my assignments?

In principle, your volunteering assignment is not remunerated by the event organiser. Depending on the duration of the assignment, the event organiser is required to provide food and drink in proportion to the circumstances. Where available, overnight accommodation details are put on the platform by the event organiser, on the registration form.

Can event organisers contact me directly?

Event organisers can only contact you by e-mail or SMS after you register on the platform. They are required to inform you only regarding relevant information about the specific event for which you have registered.

What is a Volunteer status?

The Volunteer status provides information about how many hours a volunteer has worked. Only the hours worked at events for which the administration was handled via the Swiss Volunteers platform are taken into account. There are, in addition, different categories of Volunteer status depending on the number of hours worked.

Hours worked / status

  • 0.00 hours / no status
  • 0.25 - 24.75 hours / Volunteer
  • 25.00 - 74.75 / Bronze
  • 75.00 - 199.75 / Silver
  • 200.00 - 499.75 / Gold
  • 500.00 - 999.75 / Platinum
  • 1000.00 + / Diamond

How do I confirm my assignment?

In order for the event organiser to know that he can count on you, you have to confirm your assignment accordingly. For this, you can click on the “Confirm assignment” tick, found on the right-hand side under “My assignment” in your volunteer profile. As soon as this tick changes from black to grey, the assignment is confirmed.

Is the security of my data guaranteed?

The security of your data is important to Swiss Volunteers. We therefore guarantee compliance with the current data protection regulations (GDPR) on the platform. Switzerland has been selected as the server location in order to guarantee the maximum security of your data. As a volunteer, you choose for yourself which event organiser can view your personal data by indicating your interest in an event via the platform.
